Garakani Named Outstanding Young Alumnus by SUNY Upstate Medical University

Amir Garakani, MD, DFAPA, assistant professor of clinical psychiatry and chair of psychiatry and behavioral health at Greenwich Hospital, has been named Outstanding Young Alumnus by SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY.

Garakani will be recognized at Upstate Medical’s Reunion Weekend Sept. 16, 2022.

Created in 1995, the Outstanding Young Alumnus Award recognizes physicians doing great things earlier in their careers. Candidates must have graduated within the last 20 years and have demonstrated excellence in medical practice or research, service to the community, and/or commitment to the Medical Alumni Association/Foundation.

Garakani graduated with an MD from SUNY Upstate in 2002. He completed his residency at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York, NY and a fellowship in forensic psychiatry at the New York University Medical Center.

He was formerly the director of education and an attending staff psychiatrist in the Transitional Living Program at Silver Hill Hospital in New Canaan. He is board-certified in psychiatry, forensic psychiatry, and addiction medicine.
