Applications & Interviews

Application Requirements

Applications for a categorical position will only be accepted through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) administered by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC). Find us under CT - Waterbury - Yale-New Haven Hospital Program, ACGME ID number 1400800910. We do not accept applications via fax, email or postal services.

  • Dean’s Letter (MSPE)
  • A minimum of three (3) Letters of Recommendation
  • Personal Statement
  • Photograph (optional, but preferred to track applicants after interviews)
  • Medical School Transcripts

Application Review and Interview Selection

  • We only accept application materials through ERAS.
  • November 15 is our application deadline for both categorical track and preliminary track applicants. We strongly encourage all applicants to submit their applications by the end of October because our interview days are filled very quickly.
  • Invitations to interview are sent by email.
  • Interviews take place in October, November, December and January.
  • Further instructions will be communicated electronically upon invitation.

IMG Applicant Requirements

  • In order to be considered for a position in our program, applicants from medical schools located outside the US and Canada MUST have graduated from medical school in the last 5 years.
  • Passed USMLE Step I & II Knowledge test.
  • Passed USMLE Step 2 Clinical Skills.
  • USMLE Step 3 is not required to apply.
  • Fluent in spoken and written English.
  • You must be eligible for an ECFMG Certificate in order to apply. A copy of your certificate must be received before you start.

Visas

  • All applicants who match with us are responsible for all visa fees.
  • All matched applicants must obtain a valid visa prior to intern orientation (around June 12 yearly).
  • We sponsor J-1 visas. We refer matched interns to the ECFMG website regarding all the necessary paperwork.

Preliminary Track

Our preliminary track (1 year of training) ACGME ID number is 1400800910. When applying through ERAS, find us under CT - Waterbury - Yale-New Haven Hospital Program.

We participate in the National Residency Matching Program, and do not accept any applicants outside of the match.

Our preliminary track is integrated into the core mission of our Department and provides outstanding clinical training to prepare graduates for their subsequent PGY2 specialty training.

We do not offer private interviews outside our scheduled preliminary interview days.

Categorical Track

Our categorical track (3 years of training) ACGME ID number is 1400800910. When applying through ERAS, find us under CT - Waterbury - Yale-New Haven Hospital Program.

We participate in the National Residency Matching Program, and do not accept any applicants outside of the match.

Our program provides outstanding clinical training and academic opportunities for students interested in a career in internal medicine whether it be as a practicing or academic General Internist or Subspecialist. Graduates have equally flexible career opportunities.

Interviews

Interviews for each Yale Internal Medicine Residency Program occur on selected dates in November, December and January each year. Once an ERAS application has been approved by the Yale Selection Committee, invitations are emailed to applicants through the ERAS Post Office (please see How to Apply for more information).
