Traditional Chiefs
The five Internal Medicine Traditional Residency Program Chiefs are nominated by their peers and faculty and invited through a rigorous selection process to help manage the Traditional Internal Medicine Residency Program. They have multiple roles, including that of attending, teacher, troubleshooter, facilitator, procedural supervisor, and confidante. They run morning reports, organize noon conferences, and attend in the outpatient clinics and inpatient Fitkin Service, Step Down Unit, and West Haven VA general medical floors. They also each give a Medical Grand Rounds presentation on a subject of their choosing. Acting as a liaison between the residents, program leadership, and hospital administration, the chief residents advocate for the needs and wants of the residents and oversee their professional development. Perhaps most importantly, their door is always open for advice, a laugh, a game of magnetic darts, or candy!
