Preliminary Application Requirements (1 year training)

Our Yale-New Haven Medical Center Program (Internal Medicine Traditional Program) offers a preliminary training track which involves 1-year of residency training to complete. See below.

The Yale-New Haven Medical Center Program participates in the National Residency Matching Program, and does not accept any applicants outside of the match.

The preliminary training we offer with the residency training program is integrated into the core mission of our Department and provides outstanding clinical training to prepare graduates for their subsequent PGY2 specialty training.

We do not require interviews for the preliminary track but will offer an information session for those that are interested.

Application Requirements

Applications for a preliminary position will only be accepted through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) administered by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC). We do not accept applications via FAX, email or postal services.

  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Dean’s Letter (MSPE)
  • A minimum of three (3) Letters of Recommendation (NOTE: A letter from the applicant's Department of Internal Medicine Chair is preferred)
  • Personal Statement
  • Photograph (optional, but preferred to track applicants after interviews)
  • Medical School Transcripts
  • USMLE Transcripts or COMLEX Transcripts
