New Haven, CT: Alumni Grand Rounds: "What is it Like to be a Physician in Biopharma?"

Jeff Chodakewitz, ’77 B.S. ’81 M.D. trained in internal medicine and infectious disease clinical settings at Yale and New York University before transitioning to the biotech and pharma world of research and development at Merck in the early ‘90s. In the ensuing decades he was in leadership roles in global development and regulatory approval for a number of medicines and vaccines across different therapeutic settings, with more than 20 years at Merck and five at Vertex Pharmaceuticals. Earlier this year, he retired from Vertex as Chief Medical Officer and Executive Vice President, Global Medicines Development and Medical Affairs, and now serves on boards of several public and private biotech companies, as well as is an executive advisor to the Blackstone Life Sciences Group. During this YSM Alumni Grand Rounds conversation, Jeff will share how his YSM education and clinical training prepared him for the challenges and opportunities of his career trajectory in biotech and R&D.

Alumni Grand Rounds is a series of talks that bring YSM alumni and students together for career-focused discussions about medicine and biomedical science.
