Fellow Focus in Four will introduce you to fellows from each section of the Department of Internal Medicine. This month's fellow is Ethan Bernstein, MD, Yale-PCCSM.

Why did you choose medicine and what was your Path to Yale?

I wanted a job where I was excited to go to work every single day. That’s been the case since the first day of my intern year.

Yale is and has always been my home. I was born here at Yale New Haven Hospital to a couple of residents who were supported by the Yale IM Family. Those same people are still leading our department today.

After completing my undergraduate and medical education in the Midwest, I wanted to join a program that was closer to home, but without the stressors of a large city or the arrogance of some other institutions.

What’s a fun fact about you?

At the age of 16, I was the head chef for my summer camp where I served three meals per day to about 400 people. My chef specialties included dino-nuggets and smiley fries. Under my leadership, our kitchen received its second Michelin Star.

Perks of Living in New Haven? Connecticut?

Pizza! In my five years here I have twice performed a blinded taste test. Modern is the best in town.

What Else?

At the end of my chief residency year my father, Paul Bernstein, joined our department! It is so much fun to work under the same roof as him every day because he is one of my best friends. (Please don't tell him, though).
