Fellow Focus in Four, Christopher Morton, MD, Yale-PCCSM, Interventional Pulmonary

July 12, 2021

Fellow Focus in Four introduces you to fellows from each section of the Department of Internal Medicine. This month's fellow is Christopher Morton, MD, Yale-PCCSM, Interventional Pulmonary.

Why did you choose medicine?

I actually matched at Yale for anesthesia residency after medical school. During my prelim year I realized how much I enjoyed medicine. Developing relationships with my patients, watching them heal, and playing an active role in their treatment helped me decide that I wanted to pursue a career in medicine over anesthesia. The internal medicine residency chiefs, and Dr. Mark Siegel, program director of the Internal Medicine Traditional Residency Program, were so incredibly supportive it felt like I was joining the program I was supposed to be at. I was invited to stay on as a chief of the department’s traditional residency program for the 2017-2018 academic year, and then matched for the Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellowship.

Why did you choose Yale Department of Internal Medicine for your fellowship?

Seeing how well our fellows are trained during residency really made the decision for me. We are encouraged to pursue our academic or training interests, whatever they might be, while still receiving excellent clinical training. Our hospital, located in New Haven between New York and Boston, serves as an important tertiary referral center in addition to seeing more routine cases. Both my clinical and research training will prepare me for any career path that I choose. Right now, my goal is an academic career in interventional pulmonology while still maintaining a strong presence in the ICU.

What’s a fun fact about you?

I’m an amateur woodworker. I enjoy working with live edge material and building functional but rustic pieces.

Perks of Living in New Haven? Connecticut?

Great food, low cost of living and easy access to Boston or New York when I want to visit my friends.

The Section of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine is one of the eleven sections within YSM’s Department of Internal Medicine. To learn more about Yale-PCCSM, visit PCCSMs website, or follow them on Facebook and Twitter.
