Winchester Center for Lung Disease
The Winchester Center for Lung Disease is the ambulatory practice site for the Section of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine. The history of the Clinic dates back over a century to a bequest by Sarah Winchester, establishing an endowment in memory of her husband, William Wirt Winchester, and their young daughter, both of whom succumbed to tuberculosis. This bequest resulted in the establishment of the original Winchester Hospital in West Haven, dedicated to the care of patients with tuberculosis. Over the years, that freestanding facility evolved to the present day Winchester Center for Lung Disease, which continues a tradition of excellence in patient care and clinical research across the entire spectrum of pulmonary diseases.
Today, the Winchester Center for Lung Disease is committed to the integration of patient care, education, and scholarly research to provide state-of-the-art consultation and treatment for thousands of patients. In addition to our comprehensive general pulmonary practice, we offer specialty center programs in
- Tuberculosis
- Adult cystic fibrosis
- Asthma
- COPD
- Pulmonary vascular diseases
- Interstitial lung diseases
- Thoracic oncology
- Lung cancer screening
- Sleep medicine
- Interventional pulmonary medicine
- Occupational lung diseases
We are fortunate to share in the care of patients with other clinical faculty across a broad spectrum of clinical specialties. Our faculty and fellows, collaborating with colleagues across the School of Medicine and University, participate in clinical translational research spanning many fields to advance science that will improve patient care.
