Dr. Bruce's scholarly work focuses on the intersection of addiction and infectious diseases, particularly HIV, hepatitis C, and tuberculosis. Dr. Bruce has worked both in the US and abroad to improve health outcomes for marginalized populations through system level changes and operations research to integrate various health care delivery systems to improve access to and retention in clinical treatment. Dr. Bruce’s work with people who use drugs has led to the creation of integrated health systems in the US and internationally, to improve the delivery, reach, and capacity of services to these populations through the development of novel programs. Examples of these programs include an integrated addiction/medical/mental health clinic for people who use drugs in New Haven, CT that has been replicated in Simferopol, Ukraine and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Dr. Bruce has worked over the last several years training medical providers on evidenced based treatments for addiction and HIV.
