I am graduated in Biological Sciences at Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG)-Brazil, MSc and PhD in Biochemistry and Molecular Pharmacology at UFMG. I worked as a postgraduate associate (2004-2006) and postdoctoral student (2004-2008) at Yale University. My main interest is to study how nuclear calcium is generated and its downstream effects. We showed that Receptors Tyrosine Kinases (RTKs) can translocate to the nucleus to activate nuclear calcium signals. Moreover, nuclear calcium is important to control cancer cell proliferation in vitro and in vivo. We are working with cancer cell lines and primary cells such as hepatocytes and mesenchymal stem/stromal cells. We use state-of-art imaging and biochemical techniques to show how RTKs can translocate to the nucleus and how the nuclear calcium machinery works at the nucleus. Currently, I am associate professor at UFMG, and director of center of imaging acquisition and processing (CAPI - www.icb.ufmg.br/capi).
