Medical students often face challenges transitioning from classroom to clerkships due to limited preparation materials. A group of researchers from Yale introduced a student-led Internal Medicine clerkship orientation bootcamp and accompanying survival guide, and assessed its efficacy in improving student confidence prior to clerkships.

Homeless Patient-Aligned Care Teams (HPACT) of the VA Connecticut Healthcare System in West Haven were developed as a system for providing adequate care for veterans experiencing homelessness. Previously led by David Rosenthal, MD, the program has successfully expanded the scope of VA care within the New Haven catchment area. However, HPACT leaders both locally and from sites across the country recognized the limitations in their ability to provide services to a large portion of patients who are unable to access their brick-and-mortar services. Caroline Falker, MD, the new medical director of HPACT, and the rest of her team were determined to introduce new services to address these limitations.

Nearly 200 people attended the Yale Institute for Global Health’s (YIGH) inaugural Global Health Symposium on April 5. The day-long event featured opportunities to learn about YIGH programs, including seed grants, faculty networks, and fellowship opportunities for students. There was also a session on how to navigate Yale's policies to support global health programs, and lightning talks on a wide variety of faculty and student initiatives in global health.
