At Monday’s faculty meeting, I spoke about space constraints, and diversity, equity, and inclusion.

I shared various initiatives throughout YSM that focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion, and discussed why, 11 years ago, I helped co-found a faculty group designed to foster an environment that is welcoming to all. This group is MORE or the Minority Organization for Retention and Expansion. MORE partners with various organizations across YSM to recruit, mentor, promote and retain faculty that are under-represented in medicine (URiM).

In addition to this work, the department has engaged the Barthwell Group to create a plan to enhance recruitment and retention of faculty who are women and/or URiM. Recommendations from Barthwell Group are expected by mid-winter. Look for a future update and public comment period on these suggestions.
