Child Study Center Compassionate Care The many faces of childhood trauma: mental health care’s role in perpetuating and in healing trauma
About 4% of children in the US are exposed to some form of trauma in their lifetimes that leads to post traumatic stress disorder (NIMH). Yet, disparities in areas of patient- and family -centered care, effective treatment, care coordination, patient safety, and receipt of preventive services, all continue to exist for Black and racially underrepresented individuals as compared to white individuals (AHQR, 2018). This Compassionate Care Rounds provides a case example of a multidisciplinary, coordinated model of psychiatric care for children with severe forms of trauma.
