Yale Cancer Center Annual Retreat – Team Science

Registration is now OPEN for the virtual 2020 Yale Cancer Center Annual Retreat!

Thursday, December 10th

10:00am – 3:40pm

The 2020 YCC Annual Retreat will focus on Team Science, which has become increasingly important in scientific discovery. Presentations will highlight collaborative, interdisciplinary research, as well as challenges and benefits of diverse scientific teams. Leaders from across the Center will discuss their experiences developing teams (from SPOREs to working groups) and share exciting science that is emerging from these efforts.

We are excited to be joined by L. Michelle Bennett, PhD, NIH Director of the Center for Research Strategy. Dr. Bennett has extensive experience promoting collaborations and team-based approaches in science and has co-authored numerous resources including “Collaboration & Team Science: A Field Guide,” which provides conflict resolution strategies and shares elements that contribute to successful team functioning.

Also, joining from the University of California, San Francisco, is Jennifer Grandis, MD, Professor of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and Associate Vice Chancellor for Clinical and Translational Research. Dr. Grandis served as PI of the SPORE in Head and Neck Cancer at the University of Pittsburgh from 2002-2014 and now serves as Co-PI of that SPORE in a multi-PI structure.

In addition to these presentations, we are planning to have several breakout sessions on various topics including scientific topics related to the newly announced NCI/CRUK Grand Challenges (https://www.cancer.gov/grants-training/grants-funding/cancer-grand-challenges). We will select which breakout sessions to have based on the level of interest from YCC members.

We look forward to an exciting Program, please see the attached agenda.
