- Thursday, September 10th @ 2-3pm: The Yale Program in Addiction Medicine presents the Fourth Annual Schottenfeld Lecture: The Promotion and Marketing of OxyContin, Twenty Years Later: An Opioid Crisis, Lessons Learned, Opportunities Not to Miss. The featured speaker will be Dr. Art Van Zee, an internist and primary care physician who practices in rural St. Charles, Virginia. In the early 2000’s, Dr. Van Zee reached out to Yale and Dr. Richard Schottenfeld as part of his community’s response to the burgeoning epidemic in the Central Appalachian region. He and his wife, Sue Ella Kobak, a lawyer, were instrumental in mounting a response to Purdue Pharma’s marketing efforts in Appalachia and nationally.
