Colin Brien, BSc (Hon), MBBS, Fellow (Geriatrics)

Q: Why did you choose medicine?

A: After having worked in cancer research for three years on the bench side, I realized that what I was missing was the human connection in my work. So I decided to pursue a career where I felt that my skill set would be better put to use taking care of people bedside!

Q: What was your path to Yale?

A: I grew up in Canada and earned a BSc in Biochemistry first from Queen’s University. I then worked in various cancer research laboratories for several years before I moved across the Atlantic Ocean to study at University College Cork in Ireland for medical school. This then led me to my residency in Internal Medicine at Henry Ford Allegiance Health in Jackson, Michigan, where I became interested in Geriatric Medicine. I ultimately was accepted into the Yale School of Medicine Geriatric Medicine fellowship!

Q: What is a fun fact about you?

A: My partner and I are expecting our first child, which we found out is going to be a girl!

Q: Perks of living in New Haven? Connecticut?

A: Access to many parks, hiking, and beaches along with excellent restaurants! Living in Connecticut means you are perfectly situated to explore the east coast, from New York City to Boston to Portland, Maine!
