Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Update (March 2021)

March 08, 2021
by Inginia Genao

I am happy to announce that six of our sections have identified their vice chiefs of diversity, equity and inclusion.

They are as follows:

  • Endocrinology & Metabolism: Renata Belfort De Aguiar, MD, PhD
  • General Internal Medicine: Aba Black, MD, MHS
  • Geriatrics: Marcia Mecca, MD, and Brienne Miner, MD, MHS
  • Hematology: Iris Isufi, MD
  • Infectious Diseases: Mahalia Desruisseaux, MD
  • Rheumatology, Allergy & Immunology: Lisa Suter, MD

The remaining sections will have their vice chiefs in place by the end of March. Congratulations to these individuals who will help guide the department’s Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in Internal Medicine (ODEIM).

We are actively recruiting for the Program Manager position (64055BR in STARS). This person will be a core member of the ODEIM team, and will support all aspects of developing and implementing new projects, along with guiding existing ones. If you know someone who would excel in this role, please encourage them to apply.

As part of our outreach efforts, we are excited to launch Medical Mornings in April. These virtual events will introduce middle school students in the New Haven community to careers in medicine. Our first event will be April 11 and will feature Mahalia Desruisseaux, MD; Heidi Zapata, MD, PhD; and myself. If you would like to participate in future Medical Mornings, please let me know!

Thank you for all you do to make Yale a better place.

Sincerely,

Inginia Genao, MD, FACP

Associate Chair, Diversity & Inclusion
