The section’s clinical programs are based in both outpatient and inpatient settings at each major Yale School of Medicine (YSM) teaching sites including Yale New Haven Hospital (YNHH), VA Connecticut Healthcare System in West Haven, and Saint Mary's Hospital in Waterbury. In addition, most faculty are members of the YSM’s clinical practice, Yale Medicine.

The Primary Care Centers (PCCs) at YNHH are a major focus on clinical and educational activity for the section.  In addition to providing comprehensive, patient-centered, state-of-the-art general internal medicine services to the New Haven community, the PCCs are the core outpatient training sites for the Yale Primary Care (YNHH Saint Raphael’s Campus) and Traditional (YNHH York Street Campus) Internal Medicine residency programs.  The PCCs also provide on-site specialized care programs in areas such as addiction medicine, rheumatology, dermatology, podiatry, mental health, and diabetes care.

In addition, Yale Internal Medicine Associates provides state-of-the-art general medical care within the Yale Medicine and serves as a major training site for medical education.

The Occupational and Environmental Medicine clinic focuses on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases due to chemical, biological, and physical hazards in the workplace and environment.

The Primary Care Center located at the VA Connecticut Healthcare System is also a major clinical and teaching site and provides specialized programs in women’s health, pain management, and stroke care.

At St. Mary's Hospital in Waterbury, faculty provides clinical care in the Internal Medicine Pediatrics clinic, a major training site for the Yale Combined Internal Medicine Pediatrics residency program.
