Paul Joudrey

Biography

Paul Joudrey, MD MPH (VA Scholar) earned his undergraduate degree from Case Western Reserve University and a master of secondary education from the City College of New York while teaching high school science in the South Bronx. He went on to New York University where he earned his medical degree and a MPH. Dr. Joudrey completed residency training at Montefiore Medical Center in the Primary Care Social Internal Medicine program. His previous projects include an investigation of the practices of waterpipe businesses supplying ready to use waterpipes in New York City, Abu Dhabi, and Dubai as well as assessing the association between primary care retention and the prescribing of pharmacotherapy for alcohol use disorders. Dr. Joudrey’s research interests include improving the uptake of pharmacotherapy for alcohol use disorders and more broadly investigating the delivery of evidenced based treatments for substance use disorders within primary care settings. Dr. Joudrey plans to pursue a career in academic medicine or a government position related to substance use treatment. Ideally he hopes to continue to work as a clinician part time and be a research mentor to future clinician scientists.
