Multidisciplinary Conferences

The Yale Pancreas Disease Program in conjunction with other disease programs at the Yale School of Medicine and Yale New Haven Hospital offers a broad range of interdisciplinary conference where specialists managing patients with pancreatic disease such as pancreatic cancer, pancreatic cysts and pancreatitis meet weekly to discuss and formulate a uniform, individualized, state-of-the art management plan for each patient. Formal review of outside radiology scans and pathology is offered and encourage, in addition to remote video conferencing for off-site physicians participation.

The Multidisciplinary Pancreas Conference (Director, Dr James Farrell, MD, Every Tuesday 7 to 8 am). This is attended by gastroenterologist, interventional endoscopists, surgical oncologists including pancreatic surgeons, interventional radiology and abdominal radiology. All types of pancreatic diseases are discussed including newly diagnosed pancreatic cancers,patients suspected of having pancreatic cancer, pancreatic cysts and complex. Between 10 to 15 patients are discussed weekly.

The Gastrointestinal Multidisciplinary Tumor Board (Director, Dr Stacey Stein. Every Tuesday 4:30 to 5:30 pm). This is attended by over 20 medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, pancreatic surgeons, gastroenterologists, interventional endoscopists, radiologists, pathologists, cancer genetic counsellors, and other related allied health professionals, with increasing use of videoconference to allow participants to remotely present and discuss patients. Between 10 to 20 new patients with GI tumors are presented weekly including on average 2 to 8 pancreas cancer patients. Formal review of radiology and pathology is performed prior to a consensus plan being formulated to each patient.

New Patient Gastrointestinal Cancer Conference and Clinic (Director, Howard Hochster, MD, Every Thursday 12 noon to 1 pm). All new patients with a diagnosis of a gastrointestinal cancer including pancreatic cancer are discussed and seen in an interdisciplinary environment.

The Precision Medicine Tumor Board (Director, Dr Zenta Walter MD, every Monday 1 to 2 pm). This is attended by molecular pathologists, medical and radiation oncologists. All types of tumors including pancreas cancer and pancreatic endocrine neoplasms are discussed especially those with genetic biomarker driven treatment options.
