The goals of the Hwa Laboratory are to decipher the roles played by the prostacyclin and thromboxane receptors (both G-protein coupled receptors) in the development of atherothrombosis. Both prostacyclin and thromboxane are arachidonic acid derivatives generated through the actions of cyclooxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2) enzymes.
