Researchers at the Yale School of Medicine’s Neurointensive Care Unit (NICU) and Stroke division will present new, scientific findings and receive several major awards at the International Stroke Conference in Los Angeles from February 19 – 21, 2020.
Assistant Professor of Neurology Dr. Guido Falcone will receive three prestigious awards. The 2020 Robert G. Siekert New Investigator Award, 2020 Paul Dudley White International Scholar Award, and Bernard J. Tyson Award will all honor Dr. Falcone for his outstanding abstract, Sex Genetic Predisposition Synergistically Influence Risk of Stroke and Myocardial Infarction in Middle-Aged Persons Without Risk Factors, which he will present at the Conference.
NICU and Stroke researchers will also present on such diverse topics as An Autoregulation-Derived Prediction Model for Midline Shift After Ischemic Stroke (Andrew Silverman); An Autoregulation-Derived Prediction Model for Midline Shift After Ischemic Stroke (Andrew Silverman); Recurrent Stroke in Middle-Aged Lacunar Stroke Survivors: Understanding Risk Factors and Vulnerability in an Important Target Population (Rommell Noche); and Fixed Compared to Autoregulation-oriented Blood Pressure Thresholds After Mechanical Thrombectomy for Ischemic Stroke (Nils Petersen).
Additionally, Bradley Cahn will present Deployment of Portable, Bedside, Low-Field Magnetic Resonance Imaging for Evaluation of Stroke, a study led by co-principal investigators Kevin Sheth, M.D., Taylor Kimberly, M.D., and Matthew S. Rosen, Ph.D. The presentation will highlight the development of a portable, low-field, energy efficient MRI scanner that can not only be transported to a patient’s bedside, but also to remote locations worldwide. The device is still a work in progress, but is a crucial step to increasing access to high quality, MRI imaging that can detect stroke.
Hosted by the American Stroke Association, the International Stroke Conference is a forum for stroke medicine professionals to network and to share breakthrough discoveries in cerebrovascular medicine among peers. The NICU and Stroke team is honored to be recognized by the Conference and to share their findings with the stroke medicine community.
