Fellow Focus in Four - Yekaterina Kim, MD

February 07, 2021

Fellow Focus in Four will introduce you to fellows from each section of the Department of Internal Medicine. This month's fellow is Yekaterina Kim, MD, fellow, Cardiovascular Medicine

Why did you choose medicine?

My grandmother had inspired me from a young age to become a physician with an old Korean quip, “Every family must have a physician.” The more I learned about medicine and the way it blends science, education and humanity, I knew it would be the perfect fit for me. What I love about medicine is being constantly challenged by new diagnoses, presentations of illnesses and treatments. It is also a great privilege to educate, help and build long-lasting relationships with patients and their families.

What was your path to Yale?

I completed a seven-year accelerated BS-MD program at Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education in New York, followed by internal medicine residency at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx. I chose Yale Cardiology fellowship program for strong clinical training, multiple opportunities for research, and incredibly supportive faculty.

What’s a fun fact about you?

I love spending time outdoors (hiking, camping) or traveling with my husband and our dog, Vasya.

What is your 5-year goal? 10-year? Overall career?

I am pursuing Interventional Echocardiography/Structural Imaging fellowship at Yale. My goal is to become an expert in echocardiography and structural interventions.
