Investigators at the Yale Cardiovascular Research Center respond to the coronavirus with a donation

April 09, 2020

On March 26 the Yale Cardiovascular Research Center (YCVRC) donated gloves, disposable gowns, and shoe-covers to Yale New Haven Health.

YCVRC director, Jeffrey Bender, MD, Robert I. Levy Professor of Medicine, suggested donating personal protective equipment (PPE) at a faculty meeting. The response was immediate. “I sent off an email to everyone at the center and literally overnight had the stockpile,” said Hyung Chun, MD, an associate professor of medicine and director of translational research of the Yale Pulmonary Vascular Disease Program. Chun delivered the medical supplies to the Yale New Haven Health System Regional Operations the following day. The donation included about 6,000 gloves, disposable gowns, and 50 shoe-covers. Their response was overwhelming. “The folks working there were shocked and extremely thankful.”
