We look forward to the Yale New Haven Hospital (YNHH) and Yale School of Medicine (YSM) "Diversifying the Healthcare Workforce Dinner" at the Omni Hotel on February 20. We expect over 100 students to join about 80 faculty and residents. As mentioned in my update last month, attendance will not affect how our programs rank students, as programs will have submitted their final rank lists before the dinner event. Leaders of YSM, YNHH, and the Yale Alumni Association will give welcome remarks.
The Minority Housestaff Organization held two virtual hour events in January for students interviewed by our programs. Over 120 students interacted with over 30 residents.
YSM and YNHH will send a 15-person delegation of faculty and residents to the Howard University College of Medicine career fair next month. Preparations are being finalized.
Plans for our March recruitment and outreach event in Puerto Rico are in full swing. This collaboration is with YSM’s Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, Deputy Dean Darin Latimore, MD; Associate Dean Marietta Vazquez, MD, FAAP; and the Office of Diversity, Inclusion, Community Engagement, and Equity. We expect to send a 24-person delegation to showcase our supportive, inclusive culture and learning climate and the outstanding training opportunities and resources at YSM and YNHH.
