Researchers within infectious diseases are creating and implementing strategies using mHealth or telehealth to prevent HIV in men who have sex with men and transgender women.

Strategies include:

  • Promotion of HIV testing
  • Apps to promote pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP)
  • Artificial intelligence chatbots to promote PrEP
  • Gamification of apps to promote HIV testing and PrEP

The team also researches the creation and implementation of mHealth and telehealth strategies to promote HIV and hepatitis C prevention and treatment in people who inject drugs through:

  • Creation of differentiated service models in response to COVID-19 to reduce demands on people who inject drugs to engage them in prevention (i.e. Tele-PrEP, tele-buprenorphine, Tele-HCV care)
  • Apps to create an Amazon-style delivery model for HIV prevention for syringe service programs in rural and urban settings
