Dear Colleagues,
Once again midsummer is upon us! Despite the intermittent heatwaves, New Haven, Connecticut, and New England more broadly are wonderful places to enjoy summer. As I mentioned in last month’s newsletter, the weekly Friday evening concerts held by the Yale Guild of Carillonneurs (there are two remaining dates: August 1 and August 8!) and the spectacular activities at the Yale Outdoor Education Center in East Lyme are just two of many wonderful Yale-sponsored summertime joys. Beyond that, nothing beats a day at Hammonasset State Beach in Madison or a Hartford Yard Goats baseball game (a favorite of my grandkids). These and many other activities make summertime very special in our area.
Of course, summertime is also a very special time in Yale GIM with the arrival of our new faculty and fellows who are pictured below. I recall my own transition from RWJ Clinical Scholar fellow to faculty as I graduated from a shared office to what appeared to me a converted elevator shaft which was the exact width of my desk. I had to climb over the desk to get to my chair and I recall an early prolonged discussion concerning who would pay for my new box of pencils, YSM or YNHH. Some things never change….
We have 10 new full-time faculty joining Yale GIM who are poised to contribute to our core mission statement, compassionate high-quality care, inspired education and world-class research in an inclusive culture. Similarly, we welcome 13 new fellows to the section, each of whom brings great talents along with a zest for learning under the guidance of our faculty mentors. Please make every effort to reach out to and welcome our new faculty and trainees!
As usual, there is lots of great news below to share about our Yale GIM colleagues. The article in The New York Times Magazine which prominently features Reshma Ramachandran is especially noteworthy. I recommend this and the other news articles below for your reading enjoyment. Also, please join me in congratulating all of our newly promoted and reappointed faculty! BRAVO!
As July turns to August, the summer vacation season continues in earnest as we get to spend extra time with family and friends at home, in New England, and across the world. As usual, we would love to have photos from your adventures to share with the Yale GIM at the end of the summer – please forward those to Vivian DuBrava.
Happy Midsummer!
