Bosenberg Is Inaugural Director of Yale Center for Immuno-Oncology

June 22, 2021

Marcus Bosenberg, MD, PhD, has been named the inaugural director of the Yale Center for Immuno-Oncology, effective July 1, 2021. Bosenberg is professor of dermatology, pathology, and immunobiology; co-leader of the Genomics, Genetics, and Epigenetics Program in Yale Cancer Center; contact principal investigator (PI) of the Yale SPORE (Specialized Program of Research Excellence) in Skin Cancer; and director of the Center for Precision Cancer Modeling.

A practicing dermatopathologist, he directs a laboratory that investigates several aspects of melanoma biology, including the cellular mechanisms and genetics of metastasis, tumor immunology, and prognostic and diagnostic markers. His laboratory has developed several widely used mouse models in order to study how melanoma forms and progresses, test new melanoma therapies, and to determine how the immune system can be stimulated to fight cancer. He is principal investigator of collaborative immuno-oncology grants from the National Cancer Institute’s Immuno-Oncology Translational Network and Cancer Systems Biology Network. He is an active mentor to undergraduate, graduate, medical, and MD-PhD students in his laboratory and trains resident physicians, fellows, and postdoctoral fellows.

A partnership between the Yale Cancer Center and the Department of Immunobiology, the Yale Center for Immuno-Oncology was launched in 2018 to build on Yale’s leadership in immunology, cancer biology, and the development of innovative cancer immunotherapies. Bosenberg has served as interim director since 2019.
