Use of medical marijuana to treat chronic pain has some backing from existing studies but in general, scientific support for its use in many indications is lacking, according to an editorial co-authored by Yale’s Dr. Deepak D’Souza and Dr. Mohini Ranganathan, published June 23 in the journal JAMA.
The review of existing literature shows the evidence supporting medical marijuana use for most purposes is of low quality and use of the drug should be more rigorously tested, the authors argue.
