The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science at Yale School of Medicine is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Erica Volker as Director of Optometry, effective July 1, 2026.
In this leadership role, Dr. Volker will oversee the department's optometry service. She will work with faculty, staff, and administrative leaders to improve clinical operations, support growth, and ensure high-quality, patient-centered eye care at all Yale Ophthalmology locations. She will help optometrists and ophthalmologists work together and support the integration of optometric services throughout the department.
Dr. Volker has demonstrated a strong commitment to clinical excellence, patient care, and teamwork throughout her tenure with Yale Ophthalmology. Her leadership and dedication to improving patient care have earned the respect of colleagues in the department. She understands the changing role of optometry in an academic medical center and is prepared to guide the growth of the department's optometry program.

As part of this transition, the department will start recruiting for a Lead Optometrist position. The person chosen for this role will report to Dr. Volker and work with her to support clinical operations, provider engagement, quality efforts, and the growth of optometric services throughout the practice.
