YSM Dean's Office: “Genomic Science, Translation, Care: Bringing Precision Medicine to our Community”
Eric Vilain, MD, PhD, will present “Genomic Science, Translation, Care: Bringing Precision Medicine to our Community.”
Dr. Vilain is the director of the Institute for Clinical and Translational Science and the associate vice chancellor for clinical and translational science at the University of California, Irvine. His research explores the impact of genetic changes on human development in health and disease. His work is focused on precision medicine (from diagnostic to clinical management) and on the translational genomics of rare diseases, as well as differences of sex development.
Dr. Vilain earned his MD from the Paris Children’s Hospital Necker and his PhD from the Pasteur Institute in Paris, France. He then completed a postdoctoral fellowship in medical genetics at the University of California, Los Angeles, where he became professor of human genetics, pediatrics, and urology at the David Geffen School of Medicine and the chief of medical genetics. He then became the director of the Center for Genetic Medicine Research and chair of genomics and precision medicine at Children's National Hospital and George Washington University, before moving to University of California, Irvine.
