The Dobbs Ruling: Implications for Health Care Providers and Trainees

On Thursday, August 11 at 5:30 p.m., Yale School of Medicine (YSM) will host the fourth panel discussion in the series delving into the implications of the recent US Supreme Court decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. Dobbs overruled Roe v. Wade and held that the United States Constitution does not confer a right to abortion. These discussions are part of YSM’s commitment to lead through collaboration and education.

This session, The Dobbs Ruling: Implications for Health Care Providers and Trainees, will focus on the potential ramifications of Dobbs for health care providers and trainees, both in Connecticut and in states that have severely limited access to abortions.

Panelists will include:

Amy (Meg) Autry, MD, professor and interim chief, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, UCSF, Fresno; vice chair of Graduate Medical Education and Continuing Medical Education for UCSF Obstetrics and Gynecology; member of the Academy of Medical Educators; former president of Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics (2014-16); board examiner for the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology

Joan Combellick, PhD, MPH, MSN, CNM, assistant professor and co-director of Nurse-Midwifery Specialty at Yale School of Nursing; lead, Maternal Outcomes Review at the Veterans Health Administration

Abigail S. Cutler, MD, MPH, assistant professor, Division of Academic Specialists in Obstetrics and Gynecology, University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health

Iyanna Liles, MD, attending physician, Comprehensive Gynecology of CT; member of CT Maternal Mortality Review Committee; American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) District I chair, Patient Safety and Quality Improvement

The moderator will be Audrey Merriam, MD, MS, assistant professor of obstetrics, gynecology, and reproductive sciences; co-chair, Maternal Mortality Review Committee for the state of Connecticut; and program director for the Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program, Yale School of Medicine.
