Office for Women in Medicine and Science: "Strategies to Address Patient Care and Workforce Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion"

In this lecture, Dr. Julie Silver discusses patient care and medical workforce diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). Many reports have demonstrated disparities for both patients as well as healthcare workers including, but not limited to, physicians. Although there has been progress, studies show that many stubborn gaps persist. Dr. Silver identifies key issues and suggests solutions that will accelerate progress. She uses a strategic combination of research, advocacy, and innovation to overcome barriers. Dr. Silver describes how to identify crucial tipping points that will have far-reaching effects. Participants will be inspired and armed with new knowledge. They will come away with strategies that can be easily implemented to improve patient care, advance their careers, and support trainees, staff, and colleagues.

At the conclusion of this lecture, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify new research studies on patient care and workforce DEI
  2. Identify key tipping points that may accelerate DEI
  3. Describe new innovative solutions to overcome long standing DEI problems
  4. Implement strategies to improve DEI
