Retirement Celebration for Steven Marans

Recognizing 40 years of service & leadership at the Yale Child Study Center

In recognition of the upcoming retirement of Steven Marans, PhD, Harris Professor at the Yale Child Study Center (YCSC), an informal celebration will take place in the Cohen Auditorium at 230 South Frontage Road in New Haven, on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, beginning at 1 p.m. Refreshments will be served, and attendees will be invited to share a few words in honor of the occasion.

Marans is retiring after more than four decades of service at the YCSC and the broader field of child trauma. Throughout his distinguished career, he has profoundly shaped how best to understand and respond to the psychological impact of violence and trauma on children and families. His expertise has been sought in the aftermath of major crises—including 9/11, the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, and the COVID-19 pandemic—where he provided guidance to communities, clinicians, and policymakers.

Beyond his clinical and policy contributions, Marans is a dedicated teacher, mentor, and psychoanalyst, deeply committed to training the next generation of clinicians and scholars.
