DESCRIPTION:Registration is required\, visit RSVP link above for more even
t information. *Online Event* Overview BioCyc is a collection of over 20\
,000 organism-specific databases integrating genomic and metabolic pathwa
y information. These databases combine computational predictions with imp
orted data\, and selected organisms receive extensive literature-based ma
nual curation. The platform also includes over 60 bioinformatics tools to
help search\, interpret and visualize biological data. This practical wo
rkshop will introduce strategies for exploring databases in BioCyc\, anal
yzing omics datasets\, comparing genomes\, and using search and visualiza
tion tools to investigate biological systems. The CushingWhitney Medical
Library provides free access to BioCyc to anyone with an email address @y
ale.edu The session will include a presentation\, practical demonstration
s\, and time for questions at the end. Attendees can create a free accoun
t to follow along with the tutorial here: https://biocyc.org/new-account.
shtml Attendees will learn: Navigate BioCyc and select appropriate organi
sm-specific databases. Understand the differences between the primary Bio
Cyc platforms: BioCyc databases\, and Pathway Tools database-builder. Dis
tinguish between computationally generated and manually curated biologica
l information. Search and interpret gene\, metabolite\, reaction\, and pa
thway information. Explore organism-specific genome browsers and cellular
overview diagrams. Upload\, visualize\, and interpret omics datasets. Ex
plore the Comparative Genome Dashboard Use the Chokepoint Reaction Finder
to identify unique metabolic consumers and producers. Search for metabol
ic routes within individual organisms or groups of organisms.\n\nSpeaker:
