Addiction Medicine Grand Rounds: The Canadian Experience with Supervised Injectable Opioid Agonist Treatment

The Yale Program in Addiction Medicine is pleased to welcome David Marsh, MD, as guest speaker for Addiction Medicine Grand Rounds on February 25th, 2025.

Title: The Canadian Experience with Supervised Injectable Opioid Agonist Treatment

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe the existing evidence base for the effectiveness and safety of supervised injectable opioid agonist treatment
  • Identify the target population for supervised injectable opioid agonist treatment and provide examples within their own clinical settings
  • Analyze the existing treatment system within your own setting to determine the potential role, if any, of supervised injectable opioid agonist treatment as an additional evidence-based treatment option for patients with opioid use disorder


About Dr. David Marsh

Dr. Marsh is the Vice President Research and Graduate Studies at NOSM University, Adjunct Scientist, ICES North and Research Chair, Mental Health and Addiction at HSNRI.

Author of over 200 peer- reviewed papers, book chapters and government reports, Dr. Marsh’s research interests focus primarily on treatment of opioid dependence. Dr. Marsh received the Nyswander-Dole Award from the American Association for the Treatment of Opioid Dependence and Fellowships from the International and American Societies of Addiction Medicine in recognition of his contribution to this field.

This presentation is dedicated to Ernest Drucker, PhD, who passed away in January 2025 at the age of 84. Dr. Drucker was Professor Emeritus in the Department of Family and Social Medicine, Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine at the time of his passing. His research focused on HIV/AIDS, drug policy, mass incarceration, public health and human rights in the US and aboard. A New York Times obituary published February 5th memorializes Dr. Drucker's life and transformative contributions in addiction medicine and harm reduction.
