Center for Methods in Implementation and Prevention Science (CMIPS) and Yale Center for Implementation Science (YCIS) Seminar: "Can we deliver?: Application of Implementation Science to inform scale-up of HIV prevention in low and middle income country settings”

The armamentarium of HIV prevention interventions has expanded in the last decade and new interventions such as the vaginal ring and long-acting PrEP are in development. Health service delivery sciences offer a systematic way to scale up these interventions for population impact while optimizing the use of limited resources within the health system. HIV programs are constantly and rapidly evolving as new interventions are introduced or service delivery gaps are better characterized. I will highlight the utility of implementation science in introducing and scaling up biomedical prevention interventions such as voluntary medical male circumcision, a combination HIV and oral Pre-Exposure prophylaxis within the PEPFAR program, and highlight some methodological challenges that the field should address in order to fulfill its utility in the translation and uptake of innovations like long-acting prevention.
