Oliver Hulland, MD

Hometown: Stamford, CT
Education: B.A. Environmental Studies; B.F.A. Sculpture and Photography; M.D. University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine
Hobbies/Interests: I’m an avid forager of wild mushrooms, and formerly supplied a James Beard award winning restaurant in Baltimore with all their wild foods. When not in the woods, I’m an eager fisherman who has trouble picking just one style and will happily wet a fly in a river, or paddle out in open water kayak fishing.
Past Life: I worked for an environmental non-profit in China making a documentary about desertification, volunteered as an Americorps VISTA in Humboldt County, CA, and worked as an education journalist in Baltimore, MD.
Academic Interests: Medical Education, FOAMed, and Regional Anesthesia.
Why Yale EM: I couldn’t decide between an academic, community and county style program. Luckily, I didn’t have to as Yale offers all of the above. It also didn’t hurt that the residents I met while interviewing were whip-smart, down-to-earth, and just the right amount of nerdy.
Random factoid: I’ve had photographs published in National Geographic (Ok, it was National Geographic Kids magazine, but it totally still counts).
