Biography

Suresh Pavuluri, MD, MPH is an Assistant Professor and the Assistant Director of Quality and Safety in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Yale School of Medicine. Dr. Pavuluri’s interests primary include outcomes research in acute care delivery and strengthening of healthcare systems in delivering cost-effective, evidence-based, equitable healthcare. His current research is focused on developing system-based models to detect diagnostic errors. At Yale, Dr. Pavuluri is actively engaged in various Departmental quality and safety initiatives, actively works with residents on quality improvement (QI) projects, and lectures about topics in QIPS on a regular basis.

Over the past year at Yale, Dr. Pavuluri has helped build an innovative database for tracking Departmental quality metrics, developed a "Quality Lecture Series," and leading several quality improvement and patient safety initiatives within the Department. Prior to coming to Yale, Dr. Pavuluri led a program evaluation of New York’s Perinatal Quality Collaborative on Neonatal Morbidity and Mortality for the New York State Department of Health. He was part of the Lancet Oncology Commission on Sustainable Pediatric Cancer where he led an in-depth analysis of policies and factors that contribute to hospitals’ excellence in delivering pediatric cancer care of hospitals in low-and-middle income countries. Most recently, Dr. Pavuluri led Elmhurst Hospital’s Emergency Department 72-hour returns Clinical Quality Review.

Dr. Pavuluri studied Medicine at University of Nebraska Medical Center after finishing his pre-medicine requirements at University of Minnesota, Twin-Cities. Between his third and fourth years of medical school, Dr. Pavuluri studied U.S. Health Policy at Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health followed by a Fellowship at Auschwitz for the Study of Professional Ethics prior to finishing medical school. Dr. Pavuluri completed his post-graduate training in Emergency Medicine at The Mount Sinai Hospital and Elmhurst Hospital Center before joining as faculty as a Clinical Instructor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Yale School of Medicine in July of 2022.
