Emergency Medicine PA Residency program holds 2nd Graduation

(New Haven, CT) December 14, 2017 On Tuesday, December 12th the Department of Emergency Medicine (DEM) honored Brittany Hannon and Dana Purdy, the 2017 graduates from the Yale New Haven Hospital (YNHH) Emergency Medicine (EM) Physician Assistant (PA) Residency program. The first of its kind at Yale, the EM PA Residency program provides an intense clinical and educational experience aimed at training exceptionally competent EM providers. Yale has a proud tradition of world-class medical education and this program is designed to achieve the same degree of success.

“The brainchild of Kevin Burns, the EM PA Residency, with its cutting edge training, practice, and standards of excellence, is a model for the rest of the hospital,” said Medical Director Sharon Anoush Chekijian, MD. “We are thrilled to have had such incredible support from EM Faculty, especially Drs. D’Onofrio, Ulrich, Della-Giustina, and Goldflam, as well as from hospital leadership, Mark Sevilla and Michael Holmes, who helped make this program a reality. We are also thrilled that our grads will be staying within the Yale EM family. Dana has chosen pediatric EM and Brittany will remain full-time in our department.“

In addition to receiving their diplomas, the graduates gave out their own awards to EM attendings and staff—Drs. Goldflam, Dashevsky, and Walrath, and Thomas Morris, PA and Kati Sylvester, PA-C—in recognition of their outstanding support of the residency program. “I will be forever grateful to everyone in the program for your teaching and mentorship,” said Dana Purdy.” All of you are extraordinary role models, truly exemplifying the art of empathetic, compassionate, and efficient patient care.”
