INFORMATION FOR

Meharry Medical College

The Yale School of Medicine (YSM) Summer Research Program originated with students from Meharry Medical College, a historically Black medical school in Nashville, Tennessee. In 2021, six first-year medical students were selected to participate in research in the departments of Psychiatry and Neurosurgery at the Yale School of Medicine. Alongside their research project, the students worked on professional development, community building, and residency preparation. After eight weeks of research, each Meharry student created a scientific poster and gave an oral presentation of their results. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2021 program cohort participated in a virtual format.

In 2022, the YSM Summer Research Program will be expanding to include mentors from the following departments:
  • Anesthesiology
  • Neurosurgery
  • Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences
  • Pediatrics
  • Psychiatry
