Data Sharing

Because the data obtained by QNMR is exclusively from animals, there is no need for HIPPA and other human protections on data privacy. Below we address points as suggested in the NIH brochure grants.nih.gov/grants/policy/data_sharing/data_sharing_brochure.pdf.

Form of final data sets

After processing the final data sets from a typical experiment using QNMR will be a time courses of systemic (e.g., blood pressure, heart rate, pCO2) and neurophysiological (e.g., electrical, optical, MRI, MRS) as well as timed documentations of any procedures or interventions performed on the animal (e.g., sensory stimulation, anesthesia, seizure induction).

Data storage media

The data will initially be stored on a shared data server (Core 5) which can only be accessed by a userid and password from the QNMR website. Requests for userid and password can be made directly to the Director (Dr. Hyder) or Coordinator (Dr. Herman). Then the data will be transferred to CD, DVD, or portable hard drives. For each final data set, one copy will be stored by QNMR and one or more by the investigator using the resource.

Schedule for data sharing

Users of QNMR will have immediate access to their data from the QNMR server. Once a publication using the data has been accepted, requesting investigators (i.e., external to QNMR) PIs can have access to the final data sets used in the publication through written request to the PI of the project (i.e., associated with QNMR). All such requests will have to be approved by either the Director (Dr. Hyder) or Coordinator (Dr. Herman). The PI of the project (i.e., associated with QNMR) will then send the data on digital media or made accessible via the shared data server (Core 5). In the latter case, the requesting investigator (i.e., external) will be given an account on the the QNMR website that allows access to the specific data requested.

Analytical tools to be provided

All QNMR users will be provided with the BioimagingSuite or fhstat software interfaces, accessible from either shared workstations at the MRRC, or through physical installation on the PI’s computer systems. BioimagingSuite or fhstat software will also be made available to requesting investigators (i.e., external) on request to either the Director (Dr. Hyder) or Coordinator (Dr. Herman).

Documentation to be provided

Upon request to the Director (Dr. Hyder) or Coordinator (Dr. Herman) in electronic form, a description of the experimental timeline and protocol associated with each final data set associated with a publication will be provided. BioimagingSuite or fhstat software and a user’s manual will also be made available to requesting investigators (i.e., external) on request.
