Bassir Nia Receives New Investigator Award from American Society of Clinical Psychopharmacology

Anahita Bassir Nia, MD, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry was recently selected as a 2020 American Society of Clinical Psychopharmacology (ASCP) Annual Meeting New Investigator Award (NIA) recipient.

The ASCP Annual Meeting will be held May 26 – 29, 2020 in Miami Beach, Florida, and will feature special sessions around the theme of “Integrating New and Novel Treatments into Clinical Practice and Education.”

As a NIA recipient, Bassir Nia will receive complimentary registration and a $1,500 travel stipend at the meeting.

The program includes a full-day of a closed, expert-led workshop; an opportunity to present a poster at the ASCP Annual Meeting; a special award ceremony with an opportunity to informally meet leaders in the field; a meeting mentor to guide honorees through the meeting and make introductions to others; and breakfast roundtables with an opportunity to informally meet leaders in the field.

Bassir Nia’s research interests are in translational research on addiction and mental health disorders. She is particularly interested in the biological effects of acute and chronic stress on developing substance use disorders, as well as the effects of substance use on stress response and psychiatric symptoms.

Most recently, she has been focused on the use of cannabinoids and endocannabinoid system dysregulations in relation to childhood trauma and substance use disorders, particularly opioid use disorder.
