International Day of Radiology 2016

(IDoR)

To commemorate the International Day of Radiology (IDoR), dedicated this year to breast imaging, we at Yale would like to highlight the recent contributions of our stellar Breast Imaging Division to this critically important and rapidly growing field. Members of our Breast Imaging Division have played a major role in recent prestigious national and international meetings, including Dr. Liane Philpotts, who was a keynote speaker at the Ontario Association of Radiologists annual meeting last month, and

Dr. Reni Butler, who presented data from the PIONEER trial (the first Phase 3 clinical trial of opto-acoustic breast imaging) in San Antonio last week and who, together with 4 other U.S. faculty, represented the Society of Breast Imaging (SBI) in a collaborative meeting with the Breast Imaging Society of South Africa (BISSA) in Stellonbosch, South Africa earlier this year.

We have also been very active at the regional level, with Dr. Regina Hooley helping to promote the Norma Pfriem Breast Cancer fund-raising events in Fairfield County, CT.

Our wonderful team of mammography technologists has also made a significant contribution to the field of breast imaging by recently organizing an event in which they distributed free gift baskets to patients in honor of breast cancer awareness.

In addition, one of our Breast Imaging faculty members, Dr. Melissa Durand, recently received the prestigious “Scientific Article of the Year” Award from Aunt Minnie.com for an article she co-authored in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) entitled “Breast Cancer Screening Using Tomosynthesis and Digital Mammography in Dense and Nondense Breasts.”. A number of additional recent publications have been authored by our Breast Imaging faculty, which have played a crucial role in reshaping the approach to diagnosing and screening for breast cancer. Please see the Breast Imaging section for more details.
