Research Summary
Non-traumatic cardiac arrest is a major public health problem with an unacceptably high mortality rate. In order to increase the survivability, novel treatment options must be explored. This clinical trial tests the feasibility of utilizing the ER-REBOA™ catheter as an adjunct to advanced cardiac life support in non-traumatic cardiac arrest. This study outlines a promising new approach to the management of NTCA utilizing resuscitative endovascular balloon occlusion of the aorta (REBOA). REBOA is a hemorrhage control technique that is increasingly being adopted for the management of non-compressible intra-abdominal traumatic bleeding by using a balloon-tipped catheter to intra-vascularly occlude the aorta. This technique has the beneficial effect of increasing blood pressure in the aortic arch and may be helpful in non-traumatic cardiac arrest.
