Research Summary

As an Endocrinologist, my research is focused on the effect of obesity and diabetes on reproductive physiology and pathology, specifically endometrial cancer, puberty, infertility, and placental metabolism. I have dual appointments in Obstetrics, Gynecology, & Reproductive Sciences and Internal Medicine. My lab assesses the effect of hormones and metabolites on the endometrium and placenta, with experiments in vitro and ex vivo. We use mouse models to understand whether high levels of insulin, as seen in type 2 diabetes and obesity, play a role in endometrial adenocarcinoma development and reproductive pathology. We also have an ongoing clinical-translational study of women with endometrial hyperplasia and adenocarcinoma to understand the metabolic factors that may play a role in cancer development. The work is funded by the NIH-NICHD.
