The Black Russian, New York: Atlantic Monthly Press, 2013. This is the remarkable story of Frederick Bruce Thomas, the son of former slaves in Mississippi who moved to Europe in 1894, became a millionaire in tsarist Moscow, and then reinvented himself as the "Sultan of Jazz" in Constantinople, where he died in 1928. Although famous during his lifetime, he is now virtually forgotten. URL: www.valexandrov.com
