The Department of Neurology is pleased to announce that a R21 grant from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) has been awarded to Principal Investigator Lauren Sansing, MD, MS. The R21NS108060 grant entitled “Manipulation of metabolic pathways to enhance human macrophage phenotypes after ICH” began on 12/1/20 and was awarded for 2 years (until 11/30/22).

The goal of this R21 grant is to identify new treatment targets for intracerebral hemorrhage. This devastating disease is a type of stroke with 50% mortality and no effective treatments. This project will determine whether inflammatory responses in macrophages can be altered by pharmacological manipulation of cellular metabolism, using both human cells and murine models.

Congratulations, Dr. Sansing!
