Dr. Kim is a Board-certified internist and Academic Hospitalist trained in health services research. She is the Associate Director of the Office of Student Research at the Yale University School of Medicine and has served as the Measure Lead in the development of the CMS Episode of Care Payment Measures for Acute Myocardial Infarction, Heart Failure, Pneumonia, and primary elective hip/knee arthroplasty at Yale CORE as well as the Measure Lead on the Reevaluation of the Scoring Methodology for the Hospital Acquired Conditions (HAC) Reduction Program. During Dr. Kim’s tenure as the Measurement Lead, she has led Technical Expert Panels, prepared technical reports and literature reviews, presented the measures at the National Quality Forum, and reached out to key stakeholders.

In her role as an Academic Hospitalist, she cares for patients in the hospital setting, gaining critical insights into to the real-world experience of patient care across many conditions including acute myocardial infarction, congestive heart failure, pneumonia, and HACs. With these clinical experiences, Dr. Kim has a unique “front line” perspective regarding the daily operations of a hospital. Her substantial clinical involvement brings to her research an understanding of a hospital’s work environment, structure, and patient throughput which may otherwise be unobserved by traditional metrics.
