Two Yale Psychiatry faculty members were among the winners of the 2022 Paul Wender Best Paper in the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry Award from the American Society of Clinical Psychopharmacology.
Brandon Nichter, PhD, visiting research scientist in psychiatry, and Robert Pietrzak, PhD, MPH, professor of psychiatry, were recognized alongside colleagues from the University of California, San Diego for their paper, published in the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry, titled “Prevalence, Correlates, and Treatment of Suicidal Behavior in US Military Veterans: Results From the 2019–2020 National Health and Resilience in Veterans Study.”
The researchers analyzed data from the National Health and Resilience in Veterans Study (NHRVS), which is led by Dr. Pietrzak, to examine the prevalence, correlates, and treatment of suicidal behavior in U.S. military veterans.
Results revealed a high prevalence of suicidal ideation, plans, and attempts among veterans, and that nearly two-thirds of suicidal veterans are not engaged in mental health treatment.
The NHRVS is supported by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs National Center for PTSD.
